FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Therapy Rates & Insurance

Do you take insurance?

The short answer is no. But I can provide you with a monthly superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement, depending on your coverage.

What is your rate?

My rate is $275.00 for a 50-minute session, prorated for longer sessions.

About Your Right To Receive A Good Faith Estimate

Under the law, as a health care provider, I will give patients an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. This estimate is called a "Good Faith Estimate" and explains how much your Therapy services will cost. Here are a few key things you should know about your Good Faith Estimate:

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • You may ensure that I give you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 3 business days before your Couples Therapy appointment. You can also ask me for a Good Faith Estimate prior to scheduling.

  • If you receive a bill that is $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • It's recommended that you save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.

Appointments

What happens during my consultation call? (no charge)

Your consultation call is a time for you and/or your partner to share what's going on and ask me any questions you might have. During this time, you'll also have the opportunity to explore whether we're a good fit. If we are, that's fantastic! If not, I can help you with a referral to someone who may be a better match.

Couples therapy requires a significant investment of time, money, and hope. All three of which are better spent if you both feel understood by me and confident in my ability to help. This call can help give you a better sense of those things.

How do I make an initial appointment?

To set up an appointment, just give me a call. If you don’t reach me, please leave a message and I will return your call within 48 hours, Monday through Friday.

What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. To cancel or reschedule your therapy appointment, I ask that you please do so via text or email at least 24-hours prior to your appointment time or you will be charged the full session fee.

How long are appointments?

  • Initial couples intake session is 2-hours. (new clients)

  • Couples sessions are 90-minutes.

  • Individual sessions are 50-minutes.

How often will we meet?

We’ll talk about this in more detail during your intake session, but I typically meet with couples weekly or every other week for 90 minutes. We will tailor this based on your unique needs and goals.

Do you work online or in person?

I work in person. However, I am happy to work online with established clients when necessary due to travel or other circumstances.

Do you work with individuals or only with couples?

Yes, I work with individuals. The majority of my practice is couples, but I also see individual clients whose needs and goals would be well served by the couple-informed/relationship-oriented work that I do.

Do you see your couple clients individually?

No. I only work with both members of a couple together. If one member of a couple can’t make it to an appointment, that appointment will need to be rescheduled. If only one partner shows up to an appointment, we will also need to reschedule, and you’ll be responsible for payment of the missed session.

Can I reach you in between sessions?

Yes, absolutely. I am available via text and email for logistical issues (scheduling, appointment changes, etc), but I do not provide therapy of any kind via text or email.  If something has come up that needs time and attention and you are an established client, I am always happy to get you in right away!

Are my therapy sessions confidential?

Yes, of course! Therapy services are strictly confidential and may not be revealed to anyone without your written permission except where disclosure is required by law. Legal exceptions to confidentiality are in place to protect your safety and the safety of others. This includes when there is reasonable suspicion of child or elder abuse/neglect and where a client presents a danger to self, to others, or to property.

What happens if I see you in public?

Santa Barbara is small! So in the event that I see you outside of the office, I am discreet and will maintain your confidentiality. I will always follow your lead, so it is your choice to acknowledge the encounter or not.
